You can do this, and so can we. (Because we do do it on a regular basis, every single day.) Here’s what we can offer you in terms of body hair removal:

Male Brazilian

This particular hair removal service is offered only in Chilliwack and Langley, but believe us when we tell you that it’s more popular than you’d think! Once you’re 100% smooth down there, it’s hard to go back. (Or so we’ve been told.) 😉

Arms

Have tattoos you want to show off in the summer? Thought so. Having your arms sugared can accentuate those tats you spent all that money on.

Chest

A smooth chest is something many men like to sport, so why not let us help you with that? There’s no need to shave everyday when you can simply book an appointment at Sugar’d and enjoy at least 2 weeks, sans hair.

Contact us today, try your hand at sugaring, and try to pretend you don’t love the results.

We dare you.

5 Ways to Help Your Skin Transition from Winter to Spring

The season is changing, and we’re finally in spring! This time of year brings on huge changes for your skin—generally welcome change, but change, nonetheless.

Winter is dry and cold, which unfortunately leads to very dry and dull-looking skin. As we get into the warmer weather, our skin tends to sometimes breakout with the sudden increase in humidity and sunburns are always imminent.

Here are 5 ways to help your skin transition smoothly from winter to spring:

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is key to producing bright, clean skin come spring. The cold, dry weather has undoubtedly left your skin feeling dehydrated, dull, and dark.

Buff those old, winter skin cells away, and stop breakouts in their tracks.

Also, don’t just limit exfoliation to the face—try making your own sugar scrub that you can use all over your entire body.

Hydrate

Increase the amount of water you’re drinking to reap some major benefits in the skincare department. Aim for two litres a day, and your skin will noticeably improve—we promise.

Switch Up Your Moisturizer

Chances are, you’ve been using a thick moisturizer all winter to combat dry skin. Right? In the spring, it’s time to switch it up.

Try a lighter moisturizer with the same basic ingredients as your winter go-to.

Apply Sunscreen

This is key, folks! That first sunny, hot day of the year will happen sometime in spring, and when it does, many of us accidentally get sunburnt.

This is not a great way to start off your healthy, spring skincare routine!

Shop around for a light SPF 15 sunscreen that you can make part of your new skincare plan.

Change Your Makeup

This is another biggie. As a general rule, less is more. Ditch the heavy blushes and bronzers for something light and subtle. Say goodbye to heavy black eyeliner and go a little softer on the eyes. Instead of dark lipstick, use a nude or gloss.

In addition, make sure to create a regular routine when it comes to body hair removal. We want to see you every 4 weeks—don’t be sporadic. Make sugaring part of your spring skincare routine, and you’ll be glowing and gorgeous within weeks.

Happy Spring, everyone!

Sugaring 101 + Meet Bare Wax Bar!

Friends. If you’ve said goodbye to conventional body hair removal methods and are interested in alternative treatments that last longer and are more efficient, then you need to learn about a newer body hair removal method called sugaring.

(Especially because it’s spring, and removal of winter body hair is the ultimate form of personal spring cleaning. Are we right?!)

Here’s what you need to know:

Sugaring is Safe

What do we mean by ‘safe’? We mean room temperature. As opposed to waxing, sugar paste is not hot and is the same temperature as your skin. This results in zero burns or uncomfortable temperature situations, which can occur during waxing.

Also, sugar paste only adheres to hair and dead skin—this means no accidental tearing of the skin or other harmful side effects.

It Yields Impressive Results

By pulling hair in the same direction as the growth, the result is much cleaner and smoother than pulling it in the opposite direction—something that is done during waxing. The result is smooth skin that stays hair-free for up to two weeks, and then grows back thinner and more sparsely each time you receive another treatment.

It’s Simple

In fact, its so simple that we created kits so busy people like you can sugar yourself from home!

Also, sugaring only takes a few minutes—typically less time than it takes to get waxed. This is because instead of having to apply individual cloth strips to each portion being waxed, we use a ball of sugar paste that is reused throughout your entire treatment.

It’s Usually Less Painful Than Waxing

Again, this is due to the mild temperature and pulling against the grain of the hair. Most of our clients used to be waxed before they were introduced to sugaring, and 100% will tell you they’d never go back.

Sugaring is where it’s at!

Our Sugar is Green

Okay, not the colour—it’s not green sugar paste. We mean in regard to the environment!

Made of only sugar, water and lemon juice, sugar paste is 100% eco-friendly. In fact, it’s so natural, you can eat it! (And we’ve proven that time and time again. Trust us; it’s been the basis for several of our ad campaigns!)

For more information on sugaring or to book an appointment, please visit our website. We have 4 locations across the lower mainland, including Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Cloverdale, and Langley.

BUT ALSO:

We wanted to give a shout-out to Bare Wax Bar, a great hair removal studio with two locations in Kits! They use our body sugar, so results should be identical to what you’d receive at a Sugar’d location.

Welcome!

Give sugaring a try, and you’ll never want to use any other body hair removal method—it’s that kind and easy.

Sugar’d and International Women’s Day

March 8th is International Women’s Day, and we want to celebrate our female friends, family, and colleagues!

International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, by women. The day also marks an incredibly important call to action for accelerating gender equality, which is a topic that has received a lot of media attention as of late.

HERstory

International Women’s Day (IWD) has been observed since the early 1900’s. This decade was a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw incredible population growth and the rise of radical, new, ideas.

No single government, NGO, charity, corporation, academic institution, women’s network or media hub is primarily responsible for this globally recognized day. Many organizations declare an annual IWD theme that supports their specific agenda or cause, and some of these are adopted more widely with relevance than others:

“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.” –Gloria Steinem

Thus, International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action. And one thing is for sure: International Women’s Day has been celebrated for well over a hundred years and continues to grow larger and stronger with each passing year.

How Sugar’d is Celebrating

Sugar’d is completely invested in supporting local women in business:

  • We employ exclusively women.
  • We carry products created by women.
  • We are helping to raise awareness of the importance of healthy female body image, one blog post at a time.

Also, we’ll be donating 10% of our Abbotsford location’s proceeds on Thursday, March 8th to SARA for Women. (Read about this incredible organization HERE.)

How will YOU celebrate International Women’s Day this week? Let us know by leaving a comment on this blog post, below.

Happy International Women’s Day!

Smooth Skin: How to Extend Your Sugar’d Results

Happy almost-end-of-winter! (Hopefully…) If you’re like so many others who have had enough of this cold weather and are planning on escaping somewhere lovely and warm, then you probably want to book a Sugar’d appointment before you go.

Here’s what we’re thinking: if you love smooth skin and you’re willing to have hair pulled from your body to achieve it, you probably want to keep it as smooth as possible for as long as you can—why not come back from a vacation and still have smooth skin for days or even weeks?

Right?!

Here are 3 ways to keep your smooth skin glowing and radiant for longer:

Exfoliate

This is probably the most important thing you can do to extend your sugaring results. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and keeps your skin smooth, soft, and healthy. (It also contributes to younger looking skin.)

We recommend exfoliating every day (or every other day), except for the day of your sugaring appointment, and the two days directly after.

Those days are rest days.

Moisturize

After you exfoliate, we suggest moisturizing your skin with something unscented and kind. When you remove dead skin cells, it’s leaves the skin somewhat stripped. Inject some moisture back into the area by lubing up, after.

Note: like exfoliating, we suggest no moisturizing the day of your Sugar’d appointment, and up to two days after. (This is how long it takes your pores to close.)

Book Regular Appointments

This is also important.

Your hair (and skin) have a natural cycle of growth. You can figure out when the best time to book your sugaring appointments are (usually every 4-5 weeks), and then keep up with the schedule—it’s all about consistent, regular maintenance.

By taking our advice, you should be able to extend the life of your smooth skin, post-hair removal.

If you need to book a Sugar’d appointment, visit our website and find the location closest to you—we have five of them, in Vancouver, Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack.

Stay sweet, friends!

A Call for Local Products!

As some of you probably already know, our Abbotsford location is currently under renovation. (We’re still open for business!) We’re so excited to have this project almost completed and can’t wait to share the new space with you.

On that note: we want everyone to know that we’re looking for locally produced products that are in line with our brand to come live on our shelves and be sold at our shop! We even have new, pretty shelving for it—let’s fill them up!

We’d like to carry items that fall under the following umbrella:

Cosmetics

We’re in the business of cosmetic hair removal—it only seems natural that we carry a great, local, skincare line! What do you look for in great skincare products? Which ones are you always on the hunt for? (Deodorant? Face cream? Makeup remover?)

Let us know!

Wellness

We’re thinking of locally created teas, aromatherapy, bath salts, candles, and more. Things like that. Products that make you feel good and lend to good health, whether it be mental, physical, emotional, whatever.

Tell us what you want, and if you know anyone making it!

Esthetics

Similar to cosmetics, but not quite. Products that fall under ‘esthetics’ include things like nail polish, hair colour, hair removal kits…just kidding. We got those in the bag!

But you see where we’re going with this, right?

So help us out. Know someone local who’s making amazing, effective products that fall in line with our Sugar’d brand? We want to meet them and try their products.

If you’re in need of a good sugaring (do you have a sunny vacation coming up, soon?), call the Sugar’d location closest to you to book an appointment. Remember, we have shops in Vancouver, Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack.

See you soon; we can’t wait to show off our new Downtown Abby renovations!

Stay sweet.

5 Reasons to Practice Self-Care

Hey, friends! This week on the Sugar’d blog: the importance of self-care. Do you practice it? If not, you should consider it. Here are 5 reasons why self-care leads to a happier life:

You Can Better Care for Others When You Care for Yourself

Truth, guys. Honestly, it’s like the flight attendants say: you need to place the oxygen mask over your own face first, otherwise you won’t be helping anybody.

When we take the time to care for ourselves, we’re in a better mental and emotional position to care for others.

You’ll Set a Good Example

By giving yourself a few moments to meditate in the afternoon, or take a long bath before bed, or make yourself a healthy meal, you convey care and kindness—and your friends and family will take note.

We give our children time outs when they are stressed; why not forgo the wine and give yourself one? When they’re tired, we make them nap. Why not skip the coffee and lay down for awhile?

By helping ourselves the way we help our children, they’ll notice and become more open to practicing self-care for themselves.

Your Mind and Body Will Benefit

Obviously, our minds and bodies need some love. They can’t be expected to be run ragged all the time—that’s not fair, and eventually, those practices catch up to us in the form of chronic stress, panic attacks, ill health, and more.

Curb those illnesses and diseases by allowing yourself to mindfully notice what you need, and then give it to yourself—because honestly? No one else will.

We Don’t Slow Down Enough

During this major time of technological advancement that includes constant access to anything we could ever want all the time, we forget to slow down and unplug. Practicing self-care can include limiting screen time, setting your iPhone down and walking away, making a conscious choice to turn the television off, and power down our brains.

Your brain needs a rest! Hook it up!

C’mon—You Deserve It

Bottom line is that you deserve to be cared for, and no one will do it better than yourself. Why? Because you know what you need without having to try and figure it out. And you should be your own number one priority! After all, if you didn’t exist, nothing else would for you, either. Staying well and happy is imperative to living a long, healthy life.

The choice is yours, and it begins with self-care.

And if self-care includes a monthly trip to Sugar’d, we’d be more than happy to help you with that! Contact us to book and appointment, and if you need other ideas to help you with your new quest for self-care, just ask.

Happy Hump Day, friends!

The Health Benefits of Lemon Juice

Hey there, body hair removal enthusiasts! It’s that time of year when we’re caught between Christmas and New Year’s, and things tend to slow down. We could talk about lots of things, but we thought we’d focus on one of the ingredients in our sugar paste: lemon juice.

Sugar paste is made of water, sugar, and lemon juice. The purpose of the lemon juice is to naturally preserve our product, but lemon juice also has tons of general interesting health benefits.

Skin

Yup—lemon juice is great for the skin. It’s a natural purifier and detoxifier, and your skin cells love it. It’s also anti-inflammatory, so when used on the skin, it can help to reduce swelling caused by insect bites, burns, and more.

Digestive System

Trust us: your intestines love lemon juice. As a natural cleanser of all things (due to its extreme anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties), lemon juice aids in clearing away extra debris from your tummy.

Often, a consistent regimen of freshly squeezed juice of a lemon mixed with water first thing in the morning can even help with weight loss!

Cleanser

As mentioned above, lemon juice makes a fabulous cleanser. Not just for your body, though—it also naturally cleans and eliminates bacteria on kitchen, bathroom, and floor surfaces.

Anti-Bacterial

Again, lemon’s ability to be powerfully anti-bacterial can be used for many things, in many ways. The juice of the lemon makes a great nutrition supplement and cleaner. The essential oils pulled from the rind are great to diffuse in your home to purify the air around you.

Lemon oils can also be added to your dishwasher and used as a rinse agent, as well as add a fresh, anti-bacterial component to your loads of laundry.

Bottom line? Lemon juice is a terrific addition to many things that we use every single day, and it only makes sense that we use it in our sugar paste.

If you’ve never tried sugaring before, give us a call and book an appointment— we’re proud of our product, and the results are fantastic.

Happy Holidays!
