Sugar’d and International Women’s Day

March 8th is International Women’s Day, and we want to celebrate our female friends, family, and colleagues!

International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, by women. The day also marks an incredibly important call to action for accelerating gender equality, which is a topic that has received a lot of media attention as of late.

HERstory

International Women’s Day (IWD) has been observed since the early 1900’s. This decade was a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw incredible population growth and the rise of radical, new, ideas.

No single government, NGO, charity, corporation, academic institution, women’s network or media hub is primarily responsible for this globally recognized day. Many organizations declare an annual IWD theme that supports their specific agenda or cause, and some of these are adopted more widely with relevance than others:

“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.” –Gloria Steinem

Thus, International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action. And one thing is for sure: International Women’s Day has been celebrated for well over a hundred years and continues to grow larger and stronger with each passing year.

How Sugar’d is Celebrating

Sugar’d is completely invested in supporting local women in business:

  • We employ exclusively women.
  • We carry products created by women.
  • We are helping to raise awareness of the importance of healthy female body image, one blog post at a time.

Also, we’ll be donating 10% of our Abbotsford location’s proceeds on Thursday, March 8th to SARA for Women. (Read about this incredible organization HERE.)
