Smooth Skin for Longer

Happy fall! If you’re planning on escaping somewhere lovely and warm before winter arrives (cue Game of Thrones’ ‘Winter is Coming’ meme), then you probably want to book a Sugar’d appointment before you go.

Here’s what we’re thinking: if you love smooth skin and you’re willing to have hair pulled from your body to achieve it, you probably want to keep it as smooth as possible for as long as you can—why not come back from a vacation and still have smooth skin for days or even weeks?

Right?!

Here are 3 ways to keep your smooth skin glowing and radiant for longer:

Exfoliate

This is probably the most important thing you can do to extend your sugaring results. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and keeps your skin smooth, soft, and healthy. (It also contributes to younger looking skin.)

We recommend exfoliating every day (or every other day), except for the day of your sugaring appointment, and the two days directly after.

Those days are rest days.

Moisturize

After you exfoliate, we suggest moisturizing your skin with something unscented and kind. When you remove dead skin cells, it’s leaves the skin somewhat stripped. Inject some moisture back into the area by lubing up, after.

Note: like exfoliating, we suggest no moisturizing the day of your Sugar’d appointment, and up to two days after. (This is how long it takes your pores to close.)

Keep It Up

This is also important.

Your hair (and skin) have a natural cycle of growth. You can figure out when the best time to book your sugaring appointments are (usually every 4-5 weeks), and then keep up with the schedule—it’s all about consistent, regular maintenance.

By taking our advice, you should be able to extend the life of your smooth skin, post-hair removal.

If you need to book a Sugar’d appointment, visit our website and find the location closest to you—we have four of them in Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack.

Enjoy the beautiful autumn weather, friends!

DIY Sugar Body Scrub

If you get sugared regularly, you know you should be exfoliating, right? The only exception is to refrain two days before and two days after hair removal.

We carry a great exfoliant at Sugar’d, but you can also make your own! Here’s a basic recipe for a fabulously simple and yummy-smelling body exfoliant:

Sugar

You can use whatever kind of granulated sugar you want for this; we’ve used just plain white sugar in the past. The important thing here is to get the right sized granules. Aside from white sugar, you can use brown, cane and/or coconut sugar.

(We prefer the cheap, white granulated sugar.)

Oil

Again, the type of oil you use is up to you. We prefer olive oil for its consistency, but coconut oil makes a great moisturizer, too. Just note that the appearance of your sugar scrub will vary depending on olive vs. coconut.

Also, the smell can sometimes change depending on what kind of oil you use.

Essential Oil

Here’s where you can get creative with scent. Up until this step, your sugar exfoliant will smell like whatever oil you’ve decided to use. To add a specific scent to your scrub, try adding lavender, citrus, bergamot, or ylang-ylang essential oil. You can use as much or as little as you want; this is all about personal preference.

Also feel free to combine two or more oils!

Proportions are important. Here’s our basic measurement ratios:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 4-8 drops essential oil (depends on how strong you want it to smell)

Mix well, and use all over your body, except your face. (The skin on your face is generally more sensitive and thinner that other parts of your body—you need a lighter/finer exfoliant for your face.)

If you feel like getting extra creative, add a tablespoon or two of finely ground coffee to your exfoliant—this will help energize and wake you up in the morning. Combine sugar, oil, coffee and orange essential oil for an energizing wake-up exfoliant!

Remember: refrain exfoliating for two days before and after your hair removal treatment, but other than that, go crazy! Exfoliating your skin twice a week will help slough off dead skin cells and renew your skin faster, giving it a more youthful and healthy appearance.

Happy scrubbing!

Get Smooth Skin for Summer at Sugar’d

Hey, friends! It’s mid-July, and you know what that means: sun, sand, and swimsuits.

If you’re scared about the last s-word, you shouldn’t be. We can help you have smooth skin just in time for your summertime play!

Here’s how:

Start Exfoliating

Daily exfoliation will leave your skin feeling super smooth, because it helps to remove all the dead skin cells that create bumpy build-up. As we age, our skin doesn’t slough off those skin cells as fast as it did when we were younger, so give it a hand and reap the rewards!

(Smooth, youthful-looking skin!)

Drink Tons of Water

We know, we know. Everyone says to drink lots of water, right? We get it. But here’s the thing: dehydrated skin is tired, pale, and begins to take on tones of grey.

This does NOT sound very youthful or smooth.

By properly hydrating your skin from the inside out, you create rosy, plump, smooth skin that you’ll want to show off all summer long!

Get Sugar’d

That’s right—because excess hair is not part of the plan to display smooth skin for summer!

Whether you decide to remove hair on your arms, back, underarms, bikini line, legs, or wherever, know that sugaring, in combination with exfoliation and lots of water, will produce amazing smooth skin results.

Need a little something extra? Try K’Pure Naturals skincare products for smoother, healthier skin all year ‘round. We carry this product line in-store, and we can help you choose something that your skin will love.

With the above 3-step plan (plus K’Pure!), you’re sure to have smooth skin all summer long. Book your Sugar’d appointment today by visiting our website and choosing the location nearest you.

Happy summer, peeps! Enjoy that smooth skin!

5 Ways to Help Your Skin Transition from Winter to Spring

The season is changing, and we’re finally in spring! This time of year brings on huge changes for your skin—generally welcome change, but change, nonetheless.

Winter is dry and cold, which unfortunately leads to very dry and dull-looking skin. As we get into the warmer weather, our skin tends to sometimes breakout with the sudden increase in humidity and sunburns are always imminent.

Here are 5 ways to help your skin transition smoothly from winter to spring:

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is key to producing bright, clean skin come spring. The cold, dry weather has undoubtedly left your skin feeling dehydrated, dull, and dark.

Buff those old, winter skin cells away, and stop breakouts in their tracks.

Also, don’t just limit exfoliation to the face—try making your own sugar scrub that you can use all over your entire body.

Hydrate

Increase the amount of water you’re drinking to reap some major benefits in the skincare department. Aim for two litres a day, and your skin will noticeably improve—we promise.

Switch Up Your Moisturizer

Chances are, you’ve been using a thick moisturizer all winter to combat dry skin. Right? In the spring, it’s time to switch it up.

Try a lighter moisturizer with the same basic ingredients as your winter go-to.

Apply Sunscreen

This is key, folks! That first sunny, hot day of the year will happen sometime in spring, and when it does, many of us accidentally get sunburnt.

This is not a great way to start off your healthy, spring skincare routine!

Shop around for a light SPF 15 sunscreen that you can make part of your new skincare plan.

Change Your Makeup

This is another biggie. As a general rule, less is more. Ditch the heavy blushes and bronzers for something light and subtle. Say goodbye to heavy black eyeliner and go a little softer on the eyes. Instead of dark lipstick, use a nude or gloss.

In addition, make sure to create a regular routine when it comes to body hair removal. We want to see you every 4 weeks—don’t be sporadic. Make sugaring part of your spring skincare routine, and you’ll be glowing and gorgeous within weeks.

Happy Spring, everyone!
