Does Hair Removal Equal Better Sex?

Let’s first start off by stating that there is SO MUCH INFO on this topic. Somewhat controversial? Yes. Super interesting? VERY.

And so it begins.

Is there a correlation between lack of hair (ahem–down there) and better sex? Turns out, the answer might be a big, fat YUP. So why might this be? Here are a few reasons we may feel sexier, bare:

  1. Your bare parts feel sexier against panties and briefs.
  2. No hair means more direct skin sensation.
  3. Your partner, while down there, has an easier time finding the goods.
  4. Your nether-regions stay cooler and less sweaty.
  5. Lack of hair helps to lessen odor.
  6. Women feel more secure in bikinis without having to worry about stray and visible hair.

“In a study of 2,453 adult women in the US – that pubic hair removal was associated with more positive scores on the Female Genital Self-Image Scale (FGSIS) and also more positive female sexual function as measured by the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). In particular, women who sometimes removed all of their hair (went “bare”) tended to have higher scores even after controlling for things like younger age which are known to be linked to positive sexual function.” –Psychology Today (1)

And women aren’t the only ones to love the look and feel of a hairless vagina:

“Data revealed that a huge 46% of men prefer women to go completely bare, 30% like it neatly trimmed and 12% favour a landing strip…only 6% prefer a natural look.” –Independent Magazine (2)

It’s more common for women to talk about body hair removal than men, but men love do it too. In an article by Cosmopolitan Magazine titled 4 Twentysomething Men Explain Why They Shave Their Pubic Hair, one man said “”It makes you feel more like Ken, even if you don’t have the sports car or the dream house.” (3)

To read the full article (which is AWESOME), click on the link above or below that refers to it.

There’s also a theory that supports the correlation between no hair and better sex. It’s called The Naked Love Theory, and it talks about hairlessness from an evolutionary perspective. Interested? You can read all about it HERE.

Bottom line? Bare is sexy, and it’s about time we all felt sexier. To book an appointment today, visit our website and choose a location close to you.

Dare to be (completely) bare, friends! xo

DIY Sugar Body Scrub

If you get sugared regularly, you know you should be exfoliating, right? The only exception is to refrain two days before and two days after hair removal.

We carry a great exfoliant at Sugar’d, but you can also make your own! Here’s a basic recipe for a fabulously simple and yummy-smelling body exfoliant:

Sugar

You can use whatever kind of granulated sugar you want for this; we’ve used just plain white sugar in the past. The important thing here is to get the right sized granules. Aside from white sugar, you can use brown, cane and/or coconut sugar.

(We prefer the cheap, white granulated sugar.)

Oil

Again, the type of oil you use is up to you. We prefer olive oil for its consistency, but coconut oil makes a great moisturizer, too. Just note that the appearance of your sugar scrub will vary depending on olive vs. coconut.

Also, the smell can sometimes change depending on what kind of oil you use.

Essential Oil

Here’s where you can get creative with scent. Up until this step, your sugar exfoliant will smell like whatever oil you’ve decided to use. To add a specific scent to your scrub, try adding lavender, citrus, bergamot, or ylang-ylang essential oil. You can use as much or as little as you want; this is all about personal preference.

Also feel free to combine two or more oils!

Proportions are important. Here’s our basic measurement ratios:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 4-8 drops essential oil (depends on how strong you want it to smell)

Mix well, and use all over your body, except your face. (The skin on your face is generally more sensitive and thinner that other parts of your body—you need a lighter/finer exfoliant for your face.)

If you feel like getting extra creative, add a tablespoon or two of finely ground coffee to your exfoliant—this will help energize and wake you up in the morning. Combine sugar, oil, coffee and orange essential oil for an energizing wake-up exfoliant!

Remember: refrain exfoliating for two days before and after your hair removal treatment, but other than that, go crazy! Exfoliating your skin twice a week will help slough off dead skin cells and renew your skin faster, giving it a more youthful and healthy appearance.

To make an appointment for hair removal, call the Sugar’d location closest to you today. There are 4, so finding one in your own neighbourhood shouldn’t be much of a problem.

Happy scrubbing!

Got Excuses? Get Sugar’d.

Friends: there’s no good excuse for not getting sugared.

Guys, girls, everyone. Here’s the deal: no one enjoys getting the hair ripped off their bodies, but many of us do it anyway.

Why? That’s a good question.

For some of us, we just like the maintenance, and would rather tough it out for 10 minutes each month, than to shave every day. For others, it’s the feeling of smooth, soft skin that keeps them booking regular appointments.

If you’ve wanted to try getting sugared but haven’t yet, we dare you to come up with a viable excuse regarding why you haven’t.

Here are some of the excuses we don’t accept, because they’re not real:

Low Pain Tolerance

That’s okay, because getting sugared isn’t that painful. Yes, it will be uncomfortable, but it’s not as painful as waxing. Also, the sugar isn’t heated, so there’s no way to get burned. We also provide you with a squishy beaver (yep) to hold in your hand and squeeze to relieve tension.

Bottom line? You’ll be fine. Book an appointment.

Too Busy

No, you’re not. We have 4 salons between Chilliwack and Cloverdale, and we’re open later on certain days. You can do it—this is entirely up to you.

Book an appointment.

The Scary Aftermath

What scary aftermath?! You literally do nothing! We sugar you, and then you come back 4-5 weeks later. It’s easy—book an appointment.

Not Enough Time

Yes, there is. If you have just 10 minutes, you can get your bikini sugared. In fact, you can get your underarms, lip, brows, or bikini done in under 10 minutes, generally.

10 minutes! You have that time. Book an appointment.

Fear of Ingrowns

*Snort.

This is one of the fabulous things about sugaring: no in-grown hairs! This is because we pull in the direction of hair growth, not the other way around. (You know, like waxing.)

You will experience minimal to zero in-grown hairs; we promise. Book an appointment.

And some of our more creative excuses:

The Dreaded Period

So? 51% of the planet will have, has, or have had periods. They’re a thing, and we don’t care. Book an appointment.

Hairy Legs

We’re not even going to comment on this one. Don’t be ridiculous; book an appointment. (We’ll do your legs, too.)

Hemorrhoids

Here’s the deal: hemorrhoids happen. To everyone. Not just you, and not just us. EVERYONE. Forget about the ‘roid—book an appointment. Hemorrhoids are NOT allowed to dictate your hair removal habits.

C’mon…

Embarrassed to Be Bare

Why? You’ve been naked in front of people before—and for way more invasive reasons than hair removal. Birthing babies. Pap tests. Sex. (Probably in the opposite order.)

All we’re doing is removing some hair. Book an appointment.

Shrinkage (this one’s for dudes)

Fact: we don’t care about shrinkage. We’re not your wives or girlfriends or partners or buddies or whatever. We’re here to get you sugared and send you on your way. Plus, our rooms are not cold—we’re in the business of removing hair from people who are often at least half naked.

We’re keeping warm rooms, guys. We promise. Book an appointment. (Note: we only offer male brazilians at our Chilliwack and Langley locations.)

No excuses! Book an appointment.

Get Smooth Skin for Summer at Sugar’d

Hey, friends! It’s mid-July, and you know what that means: sun, sand, and swimsuits.

If you’re scared about the last s-word, you shouldn’t be. We can help you have smooth skin just in time for your summertime play!

Here’s how:

Start Exfoliating

Daily exfoliation will leave your skin feeling super smooth, because it helps to remove all the dead skin cells that create bumpy build-up. As we age, our skin doesn’t slough off those skin cells as fast as it did when we were younger, so give it a hand and reap the rewards!

(Smooth, youthful-looking skin!)

Need a great recipe for homemade body exfoliant? View our blog on that HERE.

Drink Tons of Water

We know, we know. Everyone says to drink lots of water, right? We get it. But here’s the thing: dehydrated skin is tired, pale, and begins to take on tones of grey.

This does NOT sound very youthful or smooth.

By properly hydrating your skin from the inside out, you create rosy, plump, smooth skin that you’ll want to show off all summer long!

Get Sugar’d

That’s right—because excess hair is not part of the plan to display smooth skin for summer!

Whether you decide to remove hair on your arms, back, underarms, bikini line, legs, or wherever, know that sugaring, in combination with exfoliation and lots of water, will produce amazing smooth skin results.

Need a little something extra? Try K’Pure Naturals skincare products for smoother, healthier skin all year ‘round. We carry this product line in-store, and we can help you choose something that your skin will love.

With the above 3-step plan (plus K’Pure!), you’re sure to have smooth skin all summer long. Book your Sugar’d appointment today by visiting our website and choosing the location nearest you.

Happy summer, peeps! Enjoy that smooth skin!

Sugaring for Everybody!

At Sugar’d, we thrive on promoting a healthy body image for all our clients: we need to stick together and lift each other up, whether we identify as male or female, and regardless of our weight, skin colour and ethnic backgrounds.

We’re all the same—we just want to feel comfortable and happy at the beach in a bathing suit this summer, right?

If you hadn’t already noticed, Sugar’d has 4 locations, and each location is owned and operated by women who look very different from one another. We take pride in our diverse appearances, and so should you!

While other hair removal businesses advertise what the media depicts as ‘ideal bodies’ in tight bikinis, we want to be true to ourselves and realistic—we all come in different shapes and sizes, and it doesn’t matter what we look like, where we’ve been, or where we’re going—we want your hair removal experiences to be comfortable (silly, even!), professional, and performed by someone who knows that people don’t come in a standard, uniform shape.

(You know, regular humans.)

More than recognizing that we’re all unique and that’s what makes us all interesting and amazing people, we also strive to poke a little fun at the idea of hair removal in general.

We provide Muff Wipes at the time of your sugaring appointment so you can freshen up beforehand should you choose to do so, and tiny, squishy beavers to grip and squish during your appointment in case the hurt gets to be a little much. (Like around the time of menstruation.)

We also sing to you if you need a silly song. (Just joking—but if you asked, we’d probably do it.)

Bottom line? Hair removal should be as pleasant and comfortable as possible, and we want to make that happen for you. We don’t bat an eye over gender, weight, hair growth, age, race, or anything else.

We remove hair for a living. From private parts. You don’t scare us, and we promise not to scare YOU. So don’t beat around the bush (get it?)—call the location nearest you today to book your sugaring appointment.

Dare to be bare, friends!

It’s liberating, and we’ll help you feel your best by doing our best at making you feel comfortable and at home here.

See you soon, and happy June!

Sugaring 101 + Meet Bare Wax Bar!

Friends. If you’ve said goodbye to conventional body hair removal methods and are interested in alternative treatments that last longer and are more efficient, then you need to learn about a newer body hair removal method called sugaring.

(Especially because it’s spring, and removal of winter body hair is the ultimate form of personal spring cleaning. Are we right?!)

Here’s what you need to know:

Sugaring is Safe

What do we mean by ‘safe’? We mean room temperature. As opposed to waxing, sugar paste is not hot and is the same temperature as your skin. This results in zero burns or uncomfortable temperature situations, which can occur during waxing.

Also, sugar paste only adheres to hair and dead skin—this means no accidental tearing of the skin or other harmful side effects.

It Yields Impressive Results

By pulling hair in the same direction as the growth, the result is much cleaner and smoother than pulling it in the opposite direction—something that is done during waxing. The result is smooth skin that stays hair-free for up to two weeks, and then grows back thinner and more sparsely each time you receive another treatment.

It’s Simple

In fact, its so simple that we created kits so busy people like you can sugar yourself from home!

Also, sugaring only takes a few minutes—typically less time than it takes to get waxed. This is because instead of having to apply individual cloth strips to each portion being waxed, we use a ball of sugar paste that is reused throughout your entire treatment.

It’s Usually Less Painful Than Waxing

Again, this is due to the mild temperature and pulling against the grain of the hair. Most of our clients used to be waxed before they were introduced to sugaring, and 100% will tell you they’d never go back.

Sugaring is where it’s at!

Our Sugar is Green

Okay, not the colour—it’s not green sugar paste. We mean in regard to the environment!

Made of only sugar, water and lemon juice, sugar paste is 100% eco-friendly. In fact, it’s so natural, you can eat it! (And we’ve proven that time and time again. Trust us; it’s been the basis for several of our ad campaigns!)

For more information on sugaring or to book an appointment, please visit our website. We have 4 locations across the lower mainland, including Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Cloverdale, and Langley.

BUT ALSO:

We wanted to give a shout-out to Bare Wax Bar, a great hair removal studio with two locations in Kits! They use our body sugar, so results should be identical to what you’d receive at a Sugar’d location.

Welcome!

Give sugaring a try, and you’ll never want to use any other body hair removal method—it’s that kind and easy.

Smooth Skin: How to Extend Your Sugar’d Results

Happy almost-end-of-winter! (Hopefully…) If you’re like so many others who have had enough of this cold weather and are planning on escaping somewhere lovely and warm, then you probably want to book a Sugar’d appointment before you go.

Here’s what we’re thinking: if you love smooth skin and you’re willing to have hair pulled from your body to achieve it, you probably want to keep it as smooth as possible for as long as you can—why not come back from a vacation and still have smooth skin for days or even weeks?

Right?!

Here are 3 ways to keep your smooth skin glowing and radiant for longer:

Exfoliate

This is probably the most important thing you can do to extend your sugaring results. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and keeps your skin smooth, soft, and healthy. (It also contributes to younger looking skin.)

We recommend exfoliating every day (or every other day), except for the day of your sugaring appointment, and the two days directly after.

Those days are rest days.

Moisturize

After you exfoliate, we suggest moisturizing your skin with something unscented and kind. When you remove dead skin cells, it’s leaves the skin somewhat stripped. Inject some moisture back into the area by lubing up, after.

Note: like exfoliating, we suggest no moisturizing the day of your Sugar’d appointment, and up to two days after. (This is how long it takes your pores to close.)

Book Regular Appointments

This is also important.

Your hair (and skin) have a natural cycle of growth. You can figure out when the best time to book your sugaring appointments are (usually every 4-5 weeks), and then keep up with the schedule—it’s all about consistent, regular maintenance.

By taking our advice, you should be able to extend the life of your smooth skin, post-hair removal.

If you need to book a Sugar’d appointment, visit our website and find the location closest to you—we have five of them, in Vancouver, Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack.

Stay sweet, friends!

The Health Benefits of Lemon Juice

Hey there, body hair removal enthusiasts! It’s that time of year when we’re caught between Christmas and New Year’s, and things tend to slow down. We could talk about lots of things, but we thought we’d focus on one of the ingredients in our sugar paste: lemon juice.

Sugar paste is made of water, sugar, and lemon juice. The purpose of the lemon juice is to naturally preserve our product, but lemon juice also has tons of general interesting health benefits.

Skin

Yup—lemon juice is great for the skin. It’s a natural purifier and detoxifier, and your skin cells love it. It’s also anti-inflammatory, so when used on the skin, it can help to reduce swelling caused by insect bites, burns, and more.

Digestive System

Trust us: your intestines love lemon juice. As a natural cleanser of all things (due to its extreme anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties), lemon juice aids in clearing away extra debris from your tummy.

Often, a consistent regimen of freshly squeezed juice of a lemon mixed with water first thing in the morning can even help with weight loss!

Cleanser

As mentioned above, lemon juice makes a fabulous cleanser. Not just for your body, though—it also naturally cleans and eliminates bacteria on kitchen, bathroom, and floor surfaces.

Anti-Bacterial

Again, lemon’s ability to be powerfully anti-bacterial can be used for many things, in many ways. The juice of the lemon makes a great nutrition supplement and cleaner. The essential oils pulled from the rind are great to diffuse in your home to purify the air around you.

Lemon oils can also be added to your dishwasher and used as a rinse agent, as well as add a fresh, anti-bacterial component to your loads of laundry.

Bottom line? Lemon juice is a terrific addition to many things that we use every single day, and it only makes sense that we use it in our sugar paste.

If you’ve never tried sugaring before, give us a call and book an appointment— we’re proud of our product, and the results are fantastic.

Happy Holidays!
